Planting & Care Guide
-
Hydration: Water the root ball thoroughly before planting, and keep the soil evenly moist while the tree establishes its root system.
-
Siting: Select a location that receives full sun to partial shade. Planting them in a spot with good airflow helps prevent moisture buildup within the dense foliage.
-
Mulching: Apply a 3-inch layer of organic mulch around the base to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds, keeping the mulch a couple of inches away from the trunk.
-
Establishment: Provide deep, regular irrigation through the first two growing seasons, especially during hot summer months, as young evergreens are sensitive to drought.
-
Pruning: Generally unnecessary. If desired for a formal hedge, you can lightly shear the sides in late spring, but avoid cutting back into bare, old wood where new growth will not emerge.
-
Fertilization: Feed with a balanced, slow-release evergreen fertilizer in early spring just as new growth begins to support vibrant color and steady growth.
